The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is disseminating information on a newly recognized fungus, Candida auris, that can spread in healthcare facilities.  Though still rare in the United States, this pathogen, first discovered in 2009, can cause serious, life-threatening infections in patients who are already sick, is often resistant to currently available medications, is difficult to identify and can spread rapidly through hospitals and nursing homes.  Please see the CDC’s information sheet below:
